This summer with the NMSHSA was filled with growth, unity, and purpose, from bonding with interns across the county, protesting for democracy, to a symbolic haircut making personal change. A transformative chapter I will never forget.

Waking up from a Dream
This summer, my NMSHSA internship turned my dreams into reality — from standing on Capitol Hill as a former Migrant Head Start student to raising my voice for farmworkers with the United Farm Workers Labor Union. Each moment pushed me to grow bolder and believe in bigger possibilities for myself and my community. I leave DC inspired to keep breaking barriers, lifting others, and chasing the dreams that once felt out of reach.

Summer in a Nutshell
This summer helped me see what’s possible. Interning at UnidosUS opened my eyes to education policy and showed me how personal this work can be. Visiting a Migrant & Seasonal Head Start center reminded me of where I started and how far I’ve come. I’m leaving DC with a deeper sense of purpose and a renewed commitment to fight for my community.

Leadership, Laughter, and a Place to Belong
This summer, living with my host Janneke Ratcliffe has shown me what true leadership looks like. Through her kindness, action, and commitment to bringing people together, she has inspired me to lead with empathy and courage. I am grateful to call her a mentor and example of how compassion and initiative can create real change.
