As a 2025 United Farm Worker Intern, I’ve spent my weeks in D.C. walking the halls of Congress, advocating for the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, and proudly representing farmworker families. From emotional testimony writing to meeting elected representatives face-to-face, this full-circle journey with United Farm Workers has been nothing short of surreal.

In my first weeks at UnidosUS, I’ve been diving into higher education policy and learning from passionate advocates who care deeply about our community. Being a first generation college student, this work truly feels personal. I’m proud to be part of something like this.

A genuine and playful reflection on what it would be like to have coffee with my 5-year-old self, chocolate milk, big questions, and the surprising journey from the rural South Georgia Migrant and Seasonal Head Start to the heart of our nation.

I got coffee with my 5-year-old self today—she wore her magic kitty shirt and sipped mango juice while I told her about the woman we’re becoming. I reminded her that we are smart, kind, and enough, and she reminded me of the little girl who dreamed big in two languages.

A reflection on sitting down with my 5-year-old self, sharing how far we have come from Head Start to Washington DC, and reminding him that he was always on the right path and that I am still rooting for him today.
